Births, Deaths and Marriages
These are three of the most important records available, but in Ireland there is a specific period of time when records were officially kept. If your FamilyUlster falls within these dates you might be in luck. Birth and death records are available from 1864. Non Roman Catholic marriage records are available from 1845 (RC from 1864).

Census Records
The complete census records are available for 1901. We need to have an idea of the area in which your family lived to research these. For other years in certain areas we have fragments or other records which can substitute for a census. We may also research 1911 census which is available in Dublin, at an extra cost.

Griffiths and other Valuations
This amounts to a list of householders for every parish in Ireland in the mid 1800's. Subsequent valuations followed through to the early 1900's and give a useful guide to the Heads of Household as they changed over this period of time.

Church Records
These are particularly useful if we can discover the church attended by your family as many records will pre-date official vital records. Very often generation after genertion of one family may be baptised, married and buried at their local church. |
Belfast Street Directories
Since the early 19th Century, an approximate record of the inhabitants of Belfast was published in a directory These were never 100% complete but very often provide addresses for the heads of households If you have a name and approximate date for any Belfast folk in your tree, you should check the directory records for possible addresses. Also, more prominent people in professions are listed.Please advise us of as much as you know regarding year, name, likely profession or street name.

Wills
Wills are useful sources of genealogical information as they name relatives of the deceased person and also show the relationship. Also it may provide a more complete social picture of your ancestor. From the years 1858 - 1995 we will research and report any findings. Before this time a number of wills still exist, you may be lucky. Please supply the person's name and if you have other helpful information such as address or next of kin this may be useful. |
School Records
Many old school registers are available to research. Information given here often include names, addresses and occupations of parents.
